Statutory Minimum Rights Cannot Be Contracted Away

A fundamental principle of Israeli labor law is that statutory employment rights are a floor — not a ceiling. An employer and employee can agree to better terms than the law requires, but they cannot agree to worse. Any contractual provision granting less than the statutory minimum is void and replaced by the statutory entitlement.
