The Wage Protection Law — Deduction Rules

The Wage Protection Law strictly limits salary deductions. Only statutory deductions (tax, NII) and deductions with written employee consent are permitted. Employers who deduct for alleged mistakes, damages, or shortages — without a court order or specific written authorisation — breach the law and owe the deducted amounts back to the employee.

Total deductions other than statutory ones cannot exceed 25% of gross salary in any pay period. Final salary withheld on termination gives rise to both a civil claim and a criminal complaint.
