Holiday Pay — The Legal Entitlement

The Hours of Work and Rest Law designates Jewish festivals as official days of rest. Any employee required to work on these days is entitled to a 50% wage premium — meaning 150% of the regular daily rate — plus a compensatory rest day. Many collective agreements in retail, hospitality, and healthcare provide higher rates.

Employers who pay a global monthly salary sometimes omit the holiday premium component or fail to provide compensatory rest days. Adv. Elmaliach handles claims for unpaid holiday premiums through the Labor Tribunal.
